The Gig Economy Doesn’t Pay


The so-called gig economy doesn’t pay as much as it used to. A study by JP Morgan Chase finds gig workers who drive people or make deliveries earned about half in 2017 than they did in 2013. One reason may be a tremendous increase in the number of people taking these jobs – such as driving for Uber or Lyft – compared to how many did it 5 years ago. Meanwhile those selling services – such as Airbnb – have on average increased their earnings.
